Being very good at your craft or discipline does not mean that you can teach
it. That takes a special gift the main ingredient of which is enthusiasm.
Udemy is a great medium, Bruce is a great teacher , I am the weak link but I
am working on it. Been following him for a couple of years now and have his
previous courses but Udemy is a good match and I notice that the number of
guitar courses has increased considerably in the last year. Wish I had this
opportunity 20 years ago.
I got this course and learned 2 Blind Blake tunes right away. The course is
set up so basically you can work on any song you want , the order doesn't
really matter. The transcriptions are very close to the original... probably
as close as you could reasonably get. The thing I liked best was the TABs
which I play from better than watching the fingerboard. The video and audio is
clear and you see it from several views for several times. This course is a
bargain if you have the time and motivation. Jim loves the music and has
really made a great effort to clearly teach the tunes. I highly recommend this
set of blues guitar pieces.
Jim has some great lessons here, they are step by step so you can take your
time to get things right. He breaks down every part of the songs into bit-
sized chunks that are easier to learn. Plus, he know what he is teaching,
which a lot of guitar teachers don't quite know what the old blues masters
were doing to actually teach the blues well. Jim does and demystifies what
these greats were doing in an easy to follow format. With anything you will
have to put in practice time, but Jim makes it easier by teaching a little bit
of the song at a time.
I have a number of courses and have to say that while I have not learned all
there is to learn here what I have picked up has been great. Jim breaks things
down weii, shows you both the left and right hand fingers, and then puts it
all together for you. It is just like sitting with one of the old masters on
their front porch. Thanks Jim!
I read a lot of instruction books, listend to instruction CD's and watched
videos over the years, but i think that from taking Jim's course I'm getting
something that I did'nt get from most of the other courses. I get the rythm, I
get the feeling, it swings and it sounds like music and not just another guy
playing the right notes very nicely - to nicely. The only Little thing is that
some of the instructions is missing the song played in its full lenght. Thank
you Jim. I hope to meet you some day Cheers Lars
I've been following Jim for years on YouTube and I was so pleased to see him
offering courses on Udemy. Jim is an excellent teacher and an excellent
player. I'm enjoying the course very much and I'm learning a lot.
I've seen finger style guitar made to hard by many teachers, but this course
gets you playing and doesn't leave you frustrated because you will get results
and have fun.
This is a very good course and like all tutorials you only get out of it what
you put in to it The information is there well explained up to you to use it
Back in the early 1980’s when I was first learning to play, I would pay
$20-$25 to a musician friend to teach me a particular song. I’d watch him play
while frantically jotting down primitive tabs in a notebook. The problem was
that I wasn't a very good note taker and my friend’s interpretations often
bore little resemblance to the original tune. Also, $20/song was not
inexpensive for a struggling student. Fast forward to now and how great it is
to have a course like this! I've been working through the first 6-7 songs and
they are the "real deal". I've caught a few mistakes in the tabs, but that’s
part of the fun of learning new material. As a visual learner, I love being
able to watch Jim's fingerings over and over. Tab is great but you have to
study his left hand to master a turnaround like the one in “Reap What You So”.
His tips for singing while playing are also very valuable. Excellent
instruction, fantastic music, amazing value...

can’t wait to delve into more songs in the coming weeks.
I have been following Jim Bruce for awhile now on YouTube and have purchased
courses directly thru his site..having the courses on UDEMY as well is great
because I can access them anytime I have internet access. Jim really gets the
feel of Acoustic Blues and I hope to develop my own style with his wonderful
lessons. Well worth the price.
From Ragtime to Delta Blues Jim teaches this in an easily understood way
including great tunes that'll improve you're fingerstyle technique and impress
yer mates at parties!
If you want to get into acoustic blues guitar, buy this. Now. I got it silly
cheap but I'd have happily paid more....get it for the content not the price.
I've had problems with iPad compatibility but it's fine on my Windows netbook.
I'll be subscribing to Jim's master classes too. This guy is my new best
friend.
Really outstanding course. I absolutely love learning this music and nowhere
else is it taught in such an accessible and interesting way. It is easy to
follow and thorough, really getting into the details of how to play the
numbers true to the originals. Thank you so much for this course Jim, it is
brilliant!
40 years I've been trying to play the guitar, with some ups and many downs.
With Jim I've come across someone who not only teaches me the technique of
playing the guitar, but learns me to put my soul into it. And after 40 years
(some are quicker than others) I'm finally getting into the "feeling" of the
blues guitar and the blues music. All thanks to Jim.
Well if you are thinking of learning Old Country Blues Acoustic style guitar,
Jim is the man to see and this course will teach you many different styles of
playing, each song is broken down into small segments to help you to
understand the piece along with guitar tabs.
Easy to follow, songs broken down into sections with tab and left and right
hand positions. I love these lessons and the chord position graphics during
the songs really help me to just hold the chord and play around that shape.
Can recommend this course to anyone. Paul
My wife bought me jims lessons for Xmas and to be honest I really enjoy them.
From JB delivery to the content and teaching style it's a great way to play
the blues.
These lesson are fantastic. Jim goes into great depth in his lessons using
tablatures, easy to follow videos, and I like his short histories he puts in
about each song and it's writer. I've learned a lot about these blues players
and their techniques and personal lives too. I highly recommend this course to
anyone with some good basic fingerpicking skills if ya want to learn some
blues songs from the masters.
I have been using the videos for about one week and like what I find. The tabs
are very clear and the videos break down the music into nice small bites. I
have been playing folk/pop guitar for my own pleasure for some years now,
basically strumming patterns and my previous attempts to master blues songs
has ended in disappointment. I am surprised that such a full sound can be made
with just two fingers and I am looking forward to progressing through the
course.
Excellent tuition method from Jim giving an insight into a diverse range of
acoustic blues and ragtime gems from the old masters. Udemy facility is great
for i-pad, PC and i-phone. Any teething problems sorted out promptly by Jim.
Highly recommended.
Clear, concise instruction. I am definitely able to learn the music and how to
improvise to make it my own. I've downloaded many videos from YouTube and
others and these are some of the best.
