I have studied languages in formal classrooms and on my own. This is one of the best language courses I have encountered and I would recommend it even for someone with no prior experience. It builds both reading and speaking proficiency in an easy to follow way in small steps. You can download every segment, including the lectures and the drawing kanji demonstrations and I found that useful for practicing. Not only was the course interesting and enjoyable but I'm really happy with how much I learned. I wish some of my university classes had been this good.

Great course for an absolute beginner, flows well to introduce Japanese as well as the writing system. Listening sections are well prepared and spoken by a native. Instructions on grammar as well as vocabulary are well planned and thought out. Activities I feel could be a bit longer and larger to include more skills learned and could be a bit more comprehensive. Skills are integrated later in the course as review. A good introduction before taking a Japanese 101 college level course and possibly with a bit of self study added could be tested out. Kanji learned is comprehensive and deals with the lessons,
