Australian National University has evolved from a postgraduate research institution created by the Australian Parliament into a public university ranked 27th in the world in the 2013/14 QS World University Rankings. Australian National University stands among the Top 10 universities in the world in five subject areas: politics and international studies, history, geography, linguistics and philosophy. It is well known for its College of Asia and the Pacific, which boasts the largest number of experts in Asian- Pacific studies and languages in the English-speaking world. A large number of alumni have entered government; graduates include two former Australian Prime Ministers, as well as several judges, 30 ambassadors, and 10 heads of Australian public service departments. Other notable alumni include Kellogg CEO John Bryant and Indiana University President Michael McRobbie. Six Nobel Prize winners have been among the faculty.
