Australian National University has evolved from a postgraduate research institution created by the Australian Parliament into a public university ranked 27th in the world in the 2013/14 QS World University Rankings. Australian National University stands among the Top 10 universities in the world in five subject areas: politics and international studies, history, geography, linguistics and philosophy. It is well known for its College of Asia and the Pacific, which boasts the largest number of experts in Asian- Pacific studies and languages in the English-speaking world.
